How to be body positive

Good Thinking looks at the factors that contribute to unhealthy body image and provides tips on how to love your body.

How do you feel about your body? Some days, you might feel happy and confident. Other days, you might worry about your appearance and how other people see you. For some people, the summer months are particularly difficult as they feel more self-conscious in summer clothes.

Body image is complex and can have a significant impact on mental wellbeing, contributing to anxiety, low mood, low self-esteem, loneliness and other common mental health concerns.

As the Mental Health Foundation says, “We convince ourselves that we should strive for perfection based on what we perceive around us, but we do know, realistically, no one is perfect. This leaves us feeling like we’re never enough. We’re always reaching for perfection, but we will never get there. This leads to an unhealthy body image, but working towards acceptance can lead to a healthier body image.”

In this blog, we share advice from the Good Thinking team to empower you to accept and love your body. As many young people struggle with body image, we also include some tips from young Londoners who are part of our Digital Health Ambassadors programme.
